Dental Dentures in Wilmslow

Dentures are a trusted and effective way to replace missing teeth. Dentures are removable, custom-made false teeth made of acrylic, nylon, or metal. They are made to fit snugly over the gums to replace missing teeth and eliminate potential problems caused by gaps.

Do I need a denture?

If you are missing one or more teeth, or a full arch of your teeth, dentures can be a suitable option to replace the function and appearance of your natural teeth. If you would like a removable solution to restore your smile, dentures could be ideal for you.

It is advisable to replace missing teeth. If left untreated, your chewing and speaking will be affected, as additional strain is put on teeth either side of the gap and increase the risk of your bite becoming misaligned.

Complete dentures (a full set) will replace all your upper or lower arch if you have lost all your teeth. Your Wentworth Dental & Skin Clinic dentist will take precise measurements of your mouth, which will be given to a dental technician to custom make your dentures.

Your dentist will make sure your dentures are comfortable and advise you on how to clean them and the best methods for keeping them securely in place.

Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth and are used if you still have some of your own teeth. The replacement teeth are specifically created to fit the gaps you have, and to blend in with your remaining teeth.

Implant retained dentures are a more permanent solution for partial or complete dentures by using implants to secure overdentures in place.

Looking after your dentures

It is very important to regularly remove plaque and food deposits from your dentures. The reason for this is because unclean dentures can also lead to problems, such as bad breath, gum disease, tooth decay and oral thrush.

  • Clean your dentures as often as you would normal teeth, being at least twice a day, morning, and night. Plaque can develop on dentures in much the same way as it can on natural teeth, which can put you at risk of gum disease.
  • Brush the dentures thoroughly with a soft brush using a denture cream, toothpaste or soap and water before soaking them to remove food particles.
  • Soak the dentures in a denture-cleaning solution to remove stains and bacteria (always follow the manufacturer’s instructions)
  • Brush your gums, tongue, and any remaining teeth when you remove your dentures to ensure they remain healthy.
