Do you have staining on your teeth?
Do you have bleeding gums?
Do you suffer from halitosis?
Maintaining good oral health is essential to maintaining good overall health.
As part of our preventative approach to oral care we recommend regular appointments with our fully qualified hygienists who are here to help maintain your smile and healthy gums, one of UK’s leading causes of tooth loss.
There are two major causes of tooth loss – tooth decay and Periodontal, or gum, disease. However, with a good oral hygiene regime and regular dental hygiene appointments, you can help prevent these conditions. Hygienists are trained to thoroughly clean your teeth and gums. A scale and polish will remove harmful plaque and deposits of tartar that, if left, can cause gum disease.
Your hygienist appointment will typically begin with an initial oral hygiene check to assess the overall health of your teeth and gums. This inspection helps the hygienist to decide what is required during cleaning. This is then typically followed by ‘scaling’ where build ups of tartar, plaque, and stain on the surface of the teeth and gum lines are meticulously removed.
Your hygienist will then give your teeth a thorough polish to remove superficial stains on the surface.
If there are signs of decay, then they may also apply a fluoride or antibacterial gel and a referral to your dentist will be made.
